WoW Competition
What is it?Each year, Living Streets run a national competition to design WoW badges, which is open to every pupil taking part in WoW. Over a quarter of all children taking part in WoW enter the competition, making it one of the largest art competitions in the UK.
See the winners for 2010-2011.
How does the competition work?
Each pupil designs their own badge badge (templates below) around the year's WoW theme. We ask for the top 3 entries from each school to be submitted to us. These are then judged and the top 11 designs are chosen to be made into the following year's WoW badges. The top 3 pupils from each school receive a limited edition WoW badge and the 11 winners will be invited to a special awards event to mark their achievement.
In some areas Local Authorities will organise sending in the WoW entries, but sometimes schools will need to do it individually. Please see below for details on this.
Academic Year 2009/10 Competition
- This academic year, the dates for entering the competition are:
Monday 15 February - Friday 19 March 2010 (** closing date!)
- Judging will take place at the end of March and the winners will be announced in June
- This year's theme is 'My walk to school'. Designs should show something that the children see on their own journey to school, which they like and which makes their journey unique
- Bold designs work best, so don't try to fit too much into the badge, and the more creative, the better!
The badge template is below. Try to make sure all the childrens' details are filled out correctly, as we use this information to contact the school and spell names on certificates:
Information for local authorities
If you are organising the WoW competition in your area, remember that the more schools you let know about the competition, the more likely your region is to win! Send them a letter using our template below, or email them with a link to this page. Don't forget to include the Strider template above, which pupils should draw their design on (it is also their entry form).
You can amend the letter template with your details and logo, but please ensure that the WoW and Living Streets logos appear on any letter you issue about the campaign.
Remember to tell the school how you are going to run the competition. You could:
When you know how many schools from your area are entering, please email walktoschool@livingstreets.org.uk with the total number so we can keep track of how many schools (and/or children) have participated.
Information for schools
If your local authority contacts you about the competition, please follow their instructions. If you take part in the WoW scheme but your local authority is not organising a competition in your area, simply download our letter and follow the instructions:
Don't forget to download the badge template and write your school name & local authority on it before you photocopy and distribute it.
Remember, only send your top 3; if we receive more that that from one school, unfortunately they will not be included in the competition.
